The tweet compares ERC-8056 with rebasing token mechanisms, analyzing their pros and cons and their impact on DeFi and user experience.

Scaled UI Extension (ERC-8056) vs Rebasing Tokens🔍

@RobinhoodCrypto stock tokens implement ERC-8056 (see quoted post), and it's easy to assume they work like ethereum:0xae7ab96520de3a18e5e111b5eaab095312d7fe84, the most popular rebasing token. They don't.

The core difference
Rebasing tokens change your balanceOf and the total supply automatically. ERC-8056 never touches balances: the raw balance stays constant, and an on-chain UI multiplier changes instead.

🟢 One advantage each
ERC-8056 tokens need no wrapper (no ethereum:0x7f39c581f595b53c5cb19bd0b3f8da6c935e2ca0 equivalent) and plug into existing DeFi as-is. Rebasing is more intuitive for holders: your balance visibly grows, no UI integration needed.

🔴 One disadvantage each
ERC-8056 pushes the burden to the UI: without proper frontend support, users don't know what they're actually buying. Rebasing pushes it to protocols: poor composability makes every DeFi integration harder (that's why wstETH exists).

⬇️ Takeaway
New standards and experiments on top of ERC-20 are always worth watching, but they only work if the changes are transparent to both developers and users, in the docs and in the apps.

Did you know @RobinhoodApp stock tokens implement ERC-8056? 👀

Every stock token on Robinhood Chain carries a "UI multiplier" in the contract: the number of real off-chain shares each token represents (redeemable only by KYB'd authorized participants).

⚠️Why? When a stock pays a dividend, Robinhood doesn't mint new tokens or increase your balance. It reinvests the dividend and raises the multiplier, so each token quietly represents a claim on more shares. Same mechanism for stock splits.

➡️ The consequence: after the first dividend or split, 1 token no longer equals 1 share. Your on-chain balance never moves, only the multiplier does.

🔴 This is not intuitive. Devs have to be careful displaying these assets (the @chainlink feeds are already multiplier-adjusted, so it's raw balance x feed price; never apply the multiplier twice). And users should know what they're actually buying: on @Uniswap the token price will slowly drift above the real share price, and that's by design.

This is still aninteresting ex

stETH's scale in DeFi has surpassed all WBTC, indicating that BTC is underutilized in DeFi.

stETH alone is bigger than all of wrapped Bitcoin.

LidoFinance's TVL is at ~$16.5B TVL, while WBTC (the biggest wrapped BTC product) sits at ~$7.3B.

One liquid staking token on Ethereum outweighs Bitcoin's entire wrapped-DeFi footprint, even though $BTC has a 6x bigger market cap than $ETH.

This means that BTC is underutilized in DeFi, and most of the supply is sitting idle.

Let me break down the reasons for this ↓

1/ The stETH precedent

Before liquid staking, ETH holders had a simple but annoying tradeoff.

Stake ETH and earn yield, or keep it liquid and use it across DeFi.

Once ETH was staked, it could earn, but that was basically all it could do. It couldn’t be used as collateral, traded, looped, or built into other products.

stETH fixed that issue. It turned a locked staking position into a liquid asset that could move through ETH DeFi.

Suddenly, staked ETH became collateral, trading liquidity, leverage fuel, a @pendle_fi asset, and eventually the base for restaking.

The reason it worked is simp

stETH locked amount far exceeds WBTC, indicating BTC's utilization in DeFi is insufficient.
