    Proof of Stake in Context Jeremy Rubin's reframing of the proof-of-stake criticism in the context of Char: in Bitcoin proof of work, if you build on top of a block you mined and then abandon it, you lose Bitcoin. In Char, if you sign two conflicting messages, you lose Bitcoin. The punishment in both cases connects back to real Bitcoin expenditure. The nothing-at-stake problem that makes standalone proof-of-stake systems insecure does not apply here because Char's punishments are anchored to Bitcoin. He describes calling it proof of stake as a meme and what matters is what the mechanism does and whether it is secure, not what it is called. Bitcoin Takeover S17E22 with @JeremyRubin

Starting to sell: MARA Q1 sold 20,880 BTC ($1.5 billion) shifting to AI infrastructure, losing $1.3 billion; Exodus Q1 sold 1,076 BTC ($87 million); Nakamoto Q1 sold 284 BTC ($22 million), Q1 loss $239 million Metaplanet Q1 loss $725 million, postponing preferred share issuance. Previously the market treated all BTC treasury companies as a single asset class, now we need to differentiate: Who is still adding positions vs who is selling back.
