The Great Crypto Collapse 2026

68 names in just seven months and the list now spans virtually every sector of the crypto industry. In the exchanges and trading platforms category we have BitMEX, BitMart, Bit com, BlockFills, Arkham Exchange, Slingshot, Polynomial, Rage Trade and Ventuals. In the DeFi sector, Dango, Odos Protocol, Across Protocol, Loopring DEX, Radiant Capital, NFTfi, ZeroLend, Goldfinch, Ionic, Blank Space, Everclear, Balancer Labs, Angle Protocol, MilkyWay, Colony, Entropy, Syndicate Labs and Tally are disappearing or changing.

In the blockchain, Layer‑2 network and infrastructure projects the affected names include Moonbeam, ICON Network, Swellchain, Lattice, Redstone Network, Blocknative, Archblock, Botanix, Over Protocol, Zero Network, Pryzm, Polygon zkEVM, Step Finance, TapTools, Parsec and DataHaven. In addition, several wallet and user‑application projects such as Ctrl Wallet, Cypher, Leap Wallet, HaHa Wallet, Magic Eden Wallet and Dmail are also impacted.

The NFT, gaming and metaverse sector is also being thinned out: Exchange Art, JPG Store, Comet, Nifty Gateway, Foundation, Magic Eden EVM, Forgotten Runiverse, Pirate Nation, Nyan Heroes, Ember Sword, Wildcard, Bloktopia and Fantasytop. The list is further extended by Yupp, DL News, DappRadar, Mercado Coin, NFN8 Group and BitRiver.

BitMEX and BitMart are especially symbolic: BitMEX will cease exchange operations on September 23 2026 after more than eleven years. BitMart already stopped new registrations, deposits and trade orders, ended trading on August 26 and plans to fully close the platform on January 31 2027. Both cases so far are announced, orderly wind‑downs, not the sudden collapses seen with FTX.

Nevertheless, it would be wrong to label all 68 names simply as “failures” or completely dead projects. The commonly cited lists mix full closures, discontinued products, abandoned chains, corporate wind‑downs, migrations and projects that have merely become inactive. For example, Across Protocol is not shutting down its bridge but converting its existing DAO and token structure into a conventional company. Arkham Exchange disputes reports of a closure and says it is moving to a decentralized trading platform.

Moonbeam is ending its current Polkadot parachain but intends to relaunch the brand and the GLMR token on Base. Balancer Labs will be wound down as a company while the core protocol is to continue with a smaller structure. Magic Eden is shutting down the wallet and several EVM‑ and Bitcoin‑related products, but not the entire company. Polygon is only discontinuing the zkEVM Mainnet Beta Polygon PoS; the rest of the ecosystem remains. And DappRadar announced its end already in November 2025, so its name does not cleanly belong to a list of closures announced for 2026.

The trend remains unmistakable: reach, raised capital, a native token or millions of alleged users do not guarantee a viable business model. Many projects were artificially inflated by token incentives and venture capital without generating sufficient real revenue. At the same time, users and liquidity are increasingly concentrating on a few large exchanges, blockchains, wallets and DeFi applications. What we experience in 2026 is therefore less a single crypto crash than an industry‑wide selection.

In a bull market, rising token value can keep almost any business model alive. In a bear market, it becomes clear which products are truly needed and which only existed while new capital, airdrops and speculation paid the bills.
