Automata Proof of Build with @brevis_zk

Brevis acts as the zk proving engine that makes Automata Proof of Build verifiable on-chain without high costs or the need of any trust assumption.

First, the software is built, then build process produces the provenance data, this is the data that describes;

• exactly which Git commit was used in the process
• which builder performed the build
• the steps taken to produce the final artifact

Normally, this provenance is too large and too complex to verify directly on the Ethereum network.

Afterwards, a zkVM checks the provenance off-chain, verifies that the compiled artifact actually came from the stated source code and that the build followed the exact process.

Brevis then generates a succinct zk-proof that verifies the proceess, instead of sending the log data, signatures or the full SLSA/Sigstore bundles.

Brevis compresses all the information into a tiny proof that verifies the statement: the build is correct and reproducible from the given source.

Finally, the generated proof is then verified by a smart contract on Ethereum; this on-chain verification on Ethereum is faster and cheaper because it only has to check the proof sent into the system by Brevis and not the entire build process anymore.
