    Polymarket just got drained by a 6 year old private key. Over $600K STOLEN, 5,000 tokens at a time. > This morning onchain investigator ZachXBT flagged suspicious outflows from two Polymarket contracts on Polygon. > An automated script was draining the platform's UMA CTF Adapter, the contract that pays rewards to oracle operators. 5,000 POL tokens every 30 seconds. > By the time the community caught on, over $600,000 had moved through the attacker’s wallet and been split across 15 different addresses. > Polymarket’s VP of Engineering Josh Stevens confirmed what happened. A single private key, used for internal rewards payouts and last rotated 6 years ago, had leaked. > Once the attacker had the key, draining the wallet was just a matter of writing the bot. > All permissions tied to the key have been revoked. User deposits, open positions and market resolutions were never at risk. > The timing is brutal. Polymarket was in talks last month to raise $400 MILLION at a $15 BILLION valuation, with $3.7 BILLION in monthly volume and a $600 MILLION strategic investment from ICE, the parent of the NYSE. > A platform with that much institutional backing got drained by a key that should have been recycled long ago. The contracts were perfect. The credential management wasn’t. The hardest part of crypto security isn’t the code anymore. It’s the human running it.

    another exploit because of key compromise the $660K stolen happened in separate events: 1) the USDC ($600K+) was a one-time drain from wallet 0x8F98 (UMA CTF Adapter Admin on Polygon) 2) polymarket's top-up automation was sending 5,000 POL every ~30 seconds to keep the oracle gas wallet funded, and the attacker waited for each refill and swept it for roughly 120 cycles over 70 minutes (600k POL) the ongoing POL losses were entirely on polymarket's detection speed, and the exploit stopped when the keys got rotated the exploiter then exited through 16 sub-addresses via ChangeNOW

    Polymarket linked wallets got drained for nearly $700K worth of $POL tokens on @0xPolygon. At first, many users thought @Polymarket itself got hacked… but the company later clarified that this was NOT a smart contract exploit or platform hack. Here’s what actually happened in simple language: • The attacker reportedly gained access to a private key connected to Polymarket’s internal reward payout wallet. 
• Around $700K in POL tokens were drained. 
• Funds were moved very quickly and split across 15+ wallets to make tracking harder. 
• On-chain investigator ZachXBT was the first to flag the suspicious activity. The important part: According to Polymarket’s engineering lead, USER FUNDS ARE SAFE. That means: 
• User deposits were not affected 
• Open prediction bets are still safe 
• Market resolutions are still working normally 
• Core smart contracts were NOT exploited So this was more like someone stealing access to an internal company wallet… not breaking the actual protocol itself. The compromised wal
