Hard Truths about Privacy Harry Halpin/@harryhalpin made a direct connection between Tornado Cash and Zcash that most people in the space miss: Tornado Cash could not have existed without the Zcash cryptography libraries. What it did was use Ethereum's programmability to create a shielded pool using ZK-SNARKs... the same cryptographic primitive that Zcash pioneered. Tornado Cash and Railgun are, in his framing, essentially Zcash deployed on Ethereum. The prosecution of Tornado Cash is therefore also, indirectly, a prosecution of the underlying privacy cryptography that Zcash spent years building and open sourcing. Bitcoin Takeover S17E20

The first time you want to pay or send money for something where you don’t want it linked onchain or on a CEX to you is when ZEC really makes sense I helped a friend with a transfer the other day. They had BTC and wanted to send some crypto to another wallet but didn’t want their wallet tied to it for their own reasons. Nothing malicious, they just wanted financial privacy (as most of us wouldn’t want ALL of our bank records suddenly online) So I helped them move a small amount of crypto to shielded ZEC (takes one click to go from BTC direct to shielded ZEC). Then they sent a smaller amount of shielded ZEC swapped back out into BTC to that other wallet 1. There is no paper trail connecting the two wallets 2. They didn’t need a CEX at all This mimics paying for something in cash with fiat. There’s nothing malicious about not wanting your BTC cold wallet address linked in perpetuity to paying for something that (by the way was sub $100) is a small payment

takeaways from the zcash dev summit: tl;dr it felt like a real crypto event – like the ones you had in 2017, where everyone joined because of the ethos of this space, and you would sit down in the conference hallway with strangers and hack on the next big thing more in-detail thoughts: - strongest signal to noise zcash event: only for people working on the hardest unsolved problems including post-quantum crypto, scaling, adding programmability to zcash, private bridging, interoperability, proof-of-stake, etc... - every key team was present incl. zcash foundation, shielded labs, zodl, etc... - OG Zcashers and early core contributors devoted time to remind everyone of the principles on which zcash was built on – which can easily be lost if not careful, specially now that ZEC is going mainstream - there'd been a lot of progress on the protocol level, specially with tachyon and crosslink, you could even join crosslink's live decentralized testnet - the spiciest discussions among zcashers are on: PoW vs. PoS, s

zcash:native Now moving toward the next key support levels at $484 and $450. Once again, losing the $540 macro support meant the downtrend was the path of least resistance. Beautiful short setup from the same distribution schematic we saw at the local top near $650. I call this a Type 2 Distribution. Price sets a high > loses a key support level ($540) to sweep liquidity > temporarily reclaims that support to sweep opposite-side liquidity and form the next lower high > continues the downtrend. These are the frameworks I’ve spent years building. They’re the reason we caught the move up, and the reason we’re catching the move back down. Happy printing. 🤝
